OVER THE WEEKEND, it emerged that Roscommon/South Leitrim was the sole constituency to vote No in the same sex marriage referendum.
It caused quite the stir.
Whoops!

Yesterday evening, Yes Equality Roscommon addressed the controversy in a heartfelt post on its official Facebook page.
Firstly, volunteers from the group described the campaign as an “incredible experience” and spoke of the “heart-warming support” they received from the local electorate.
However, they also acknowledged that they were faced with a lack of resources and little support from local politicians.
According to the group, the two exceptions were Fine Gael’s Frank Feighan and Maura Hopkins.
The group went on to thank the volunteers, local businesses and the main branch of Yes Equality for the support received throughout the campaign.
In addressing the final result, the group reminded everyone that 17,615 people did vote Yes and noted that they helped make history.
